It’s no secret that 70%~ of water sources in the United States are filled with fluoride. We were told that fluoride prevents cavities, but is it really safe for us to consume in such large quantities?
Fluoride is not only in our water, but also in toothpaste, mouthwashes, juices, and produce watered with fluoridated water. In small quantities, few studies have shown that fluoride can decrease the chances of cavities. However, other studies suggest that fluoride can increase the chance of getting cavities (stained teeth).
Small amounts of fluoride naturally found on Earth are normal and of course, safe to consume. Every study shows significant data that large amounts of fluoride cause neurotoxicity and problems with cognitive development in children. Can we argue, in this case, that the arguably “safe” amounts of fluoride added to our water (around 0.7 ppm) when combined with fluoride in our produce, toothpaste, etc, puts us at risk for consuming unsafe quantities of fluoride at the very low gain of “possibly” having a smaller chance of cavities?
After suffering a severe, nearly-deadly reaction to a fluoroquinolone, I must avoid fluoride as much as possible (in case some is still lingering in my body). Thus, I found a list of non- and low-fluoridated bottled water supplies for those who live in fluoridated water areas. The list also contains brands to avoid. I’ve been asked on multiple occasions to share my list, so here it is for all of you! I don’t remember where I got it from, so pardon me if some of the information is incorrect. If you see anything that is wrong, don’t hesitate to comment and let me know!
